The suprachiasmatic nucleus processes signals when your eyes are exposed to natural or artificial light.
Most living creatures have a circadian rhythm, by the way.
As natural light (i.e. sunlight) disappears, your body releases melatonin, which induces drowsiness. In the morning, when sunlight reappears, your body releases cortisol, which causes you to have more energy.

Several studies have indicated that moderate to high dosages of CBD can lead to improved sleep.
One study in particular found that, when compared with a placebo, a CBD dosage of 160 milligrams increased the subjects’ sleep duration.
In another study, researchers found that subjects’ cortisol levels decreased when participants took 300 or 600 mg of CBD oil.
Cortisol is known as the stress hormone, and levels generally peak in the morning. However, those with insomnia may have high levels of cortisol at night. Having high levels of cortisol at night is often associated with nightmares.
Another study that lasted 3 months tested 103 participants who showed signs of anxiety and sleep deprivation. Participants were given CBD dosages ranging from 25 to 175 mg. During the study, researchers followed up with the participants regularly.
After the first follow-up, nearly 70% of participants reported improved sleep. After the second follow-up, nearly 60% of participants reported improved sleep.
